Amen 05:41
Please don’t leave me Please don’t leave me down here Please don’t leave me down here with all of these fools Oh no don’t you take me Oh no no no no Oh no don’t you take me Take me too soon Been lookin over my shoulder Turning over rocks Trying to piece together puzzles in the dark But I, I’ve got so much left to do I know I’ve been a stranger I know I’ve lost my way I wandered in the wilderness For days and days and days and days And I’m slippin and I’m sliding Rolling down the hill I know the day is coming I’m gonna have to put my shoulder to the wheel There’s fire on the mountain And honey in the jar Spinning like a satellite and laughing at the cars Because I, I’m coming home to you (Amen, amen) And I’m swinging in the moonlight And I’m walking on the stars And I’m banging on them gates Wondering where you are And I’m up early in the morning Heading down the road And I can see the water rising The wind begins to blow There’s whispers in the trees And there’s diamonds in the cloud And I’m trying trying trying trying To turn this world around And I, I’ve got so much left to do
2.
It’s so hard To take a single step When you don’t even know where you’re going We’re all holding on In the whirlwind Every ending is just a beginning Doors are opening In these heavy times Crack ‘em open wide Take a walk outside It’s so hard to see the light When you can’t even lift your head We’re all hoping for Some way to lose ourselves Without even getting out of bed Doors are opening In these heavy times Crack ‘em open wide Take a look outside (bridge) And all flesh is grass Tomorrow soon will be yesterday At last Doors are opening In these heavy times Crack ‘em open wide Take a look outside Doors are opening Doors are opening
3.
Come on in, make yourself at home Leave your troubles by the door Pull up a chair, kick up your heels Don’t you know what’s mine is yours I’m so glad you came around There’s nothing here to bring you down Things can fall apart so fast But you and me were built to last Well if you’ve got what it takes They’ll take everything you’ve got No hustlers here, no prying eyes Trying to buy what can’t be bought I’m so glad you came around You picked me up when I was down Things can fall apart so fast Honey I was built to last
4.
Don't be afraid It's not too late I know what it's like to lose your mind Can’t stop crying Waiting for the day Don't turn away Don’t hide your pain Praying everything will be alright Up all night It's gonna be okay When all of your illusions are revealed And you give away the things you used to steal And you remember how it used to feel To see the open road And know you’re bound for somewhere Better than anywhere you’ve been
5.
Golden State 03:06
Saw an angel on an orange crate Callin me back to the golden state She told me that we shouldn’t wait for you Feel like Daniel in the lion’s den And I can still remember when Everybody leant a hand but you There’s only so much I can take Spent your whole life tempting fate We’re all dying just to get a break from you You got your greed etched in stone Live in a palace all alone But there’s a light that never shone on you Roots are rumblin beneath your feet Had to get out in the street Someone’s gotta take the wheel from you The road is clear but it’s slick as ice You close your eyes and don’t look twice Someone else always pays the price for you Tell me why (x3)
6.
Won’t be long, feel it in the air Look around the signs are everywhere Headin out, ain’t got time to spare I feel like I was walking backwards through a maze Counting down the days Lookin up, tired of being down I know I took awhile but I came around Had to pick myself up off the ground I feel like I was walking backwards through a maze Counting down the days (til I could say) I’m gonna leave it all behind I’ll see you on the other side I’m going where the lights are bright Had enough of livin in my head Every day just hanging by a thread Movin on down the road instead I feel like I was walking backwards through a maze Counting down the days (til I could say) I’m gonna leave it all behind I’m going where the lights are bright I’ll see you on the other side
7.
Wine and roses, surf and sun Milk and honey, peace and love Smoke and mirrors everywhere Oil and water, sticks and stones Tooth and nail, skin and bones Smoke and mirrors everywhere Well a man without a doubt Ain't no man at all I'm just waiting for a sign And I don't mean to borrow trouble Or tell you what to do But I just can't let it slide It might not matter much to you I just wanna know the truth Cut and run, hit and miss Sick and tired, bait and switch Smoke and mirrors everywhere There's a knife in every hand Poison on every tongue it's like there's nowhere left to hide And I feel like the sea Singing in my chains Just tryin to survive And I know you feel it too I just wanna know the truth
8.
It’s been a long, long time What I need I can’t seem to find Always looking out Never looking in On my treasure in hand It’s a mystery All the beauty they refuse to see Don’t let it go You’ve gotta hold it close Like a treasure in hand And it’s alright, it’s alright I’ve got you It’s a simple thing To get caught up with suffering Throw your worries in the wind As long as I’ve got friends you know I’ve got a treasure in hand And it's allright, it's alright Long as you’re here by my side And it’s alright, it’s alright I’ve got you
9.
Dear lord what can I say Been waiting all my life just to see your face Lord I’m calling your name Are we all on our own down here Flies in the web Show me what I've gotta do To make it right Someday I’ll understand Why we’re wasting all our time Killing all we can Oh lord when will I learn To let go of anger before I get burned Show me what I've gotta do To make it right Take me in your hands Take me in your hands
10.
How you doing? How come we ain't Getting’ along Why's it so hard Getting’ along Guess I best be Getting’ along The years ain’t all been kind And lately you’ve been on my mind Lord I wish it wasn’t true But I might need a little help from you How you doing? How come we ain't Getting’ along Why's it so hard Getting’ along Guess I best be Getting’ along This old world beats you down Leaves you lost and hollowed out Gonna lay down in the grass Watch the clouds as they roll past How you doing? How come we ain't Getting’ along Why's it so hard Getting’ along Guess I best be Getting’ along

about

Veteran SF indie rock outfit returns with a sumptuous set of spiritual pop hymnals, in the tradition of George Harrison, Richard Hawley, Spiritualized, and Gene Clark. Painstakingly assembled from over two years’ worth of recording sessions and augmented by a heavenly host of horns, strings, analog keys, chiming guitars and a makeshift choir.

Press for Tough Trip Through Paradise

Uncut - The Society of Rockets have undergone a number of stylistic makeovers since, assimilating psychedelia, garage-rock, Tropicália and more. At heart they’re an unfailing melodic pop band

I Don't Hear A Single - This is great Pop Rock that crosses genres with big hints of Jangle Pop and Psych Pop all wrapped up in great choruses and big riffs. They also do gentle just as effectively. This is probably my favourite album of the year thus far.

Americana Highways - The 10 disciplined pieces that makeup Tough Trip Through Paradise (Drops March 29/Underpop Records/39:00) are more like new songs with nostalgic ingredients. The performances are all commendable. The Society has been banging about for over 20 years & this 8th studio album shows their experience clearly.

Past press

Pitchfork - Babcock’s best compositions blur the lines between many strains of 1960s and 70s pop and exotica, coming together on albums that sound like either an alternate version of the past, or an older version of the future.

Shindig - Unearthed is the seventh Rockets album, a sonic continuation of 2016’s Family Ways, for the most part mixing city-centric country-rock with Pavement-esque indie.

Americana UK - For over twenty years, San Francisco’s Society of Rockets have been on a musical journey through a range of genres, exploring an eclectic mix of styles and proving themselves to be incredibly adaptable.  Their songs may be varied but they have in common catchy hooks and absorbing, shimmering melodies.
